What to Expect as an RA in the BWell Lab

It is important that research assistants in our lab have excellent time management, organization, and writing skills. You can expect to be active in the writing process of manuscripts and developing research ideas in the lab. Many of our undergraduate RAs are also McNair Scholars and are actively working on their honor's thesis with Dr. Jones. We are also open to accepting post-baccalaureate research assistants.

As a member of the lab, you will gain experience that can help you with your career interests (e.g., graduate school). Lab members of the BWell Lab attend biweekly lab meetings where the entire lab meets with Dr. Jones to provide updates on research projects along with providing feedback on lab members' thesis and dissertation projects. Lab members also join small teams within the lab to work on research projects (for descriptions on current research projects visit this page) and meet with Dr. Jones and team members. Meetings vary from weekly to biweekly depending on the stage of development the project is currently in (e.g., submission stage). These meetings are an excellent opportunity to gain experience developing manuscripts and conference presentation, as well as methods of gaining authorship. Through these small research teams, you also receive valuable peer mentorship from current graduate students.
