Am I qualified to apply?

  • You must meet the minimum requirements to apply
    • 24 undergraduate hours in psychology, including coursework in Statistics
    • 12 of those credits are upper level
  • We do not solely evaluate your application by the numbers (e.g., GRE and GPA).
  • We consider how well your training needs and goals fit with our faculty strengths and training program.

How is the program ranked?

  • Usually, when applicants ask this question, they are referring to US News & World Report Rankings. We do not participate in the polling that generates those rankings. In fact, our professional member organization has passed a resolution against participation due to poor data quality. The result is that clinical psychology has the lowest participation rate across disciplines. We strongly encourage applicants to review programs based on the specific strengths of each program and determining how well those map onto your training needs and career goals. Data based strengths of our program are detailed on our program homepage.

Can I afford doctoral training?

  • Teaching assistantships (TA), teaching fellowships (TF), and research assistantships (RA) are available.
  • In addition, scholarships and financial aid for doctoral students at UNT are available.
