Dr. Ruiz Awarded Major NIH Grant

Dr. John M. Ruiz of the Clinical Health Psychology/ Behavioral Medicine (CHPBM) and Experimental Psychology programs has been awarded a $1.63 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to examine social vigilance as a biobehavioral mediator of stress effects on heart disease. Dr. Ruiz (PI) will lead a multi-investigator team from 5 institutions during the 3-year study. The primary aims of the study are to examine cross-sectional and longitudinal associations between social vigilance and atherosclerosis as well as explore biological mechanisms that may underlie such risk.
