Dr. John Ruiz's recent $1.63 million NIH-NHLBI grant, upcoming APA symposium on “Mentoring of Early Career Minorities in Health Research,” and work on the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 38 (Health Psychology) Diversity Council is noted in the attached PRIDE newsletter.   Dr. Ruiz participated in the NIH Programs to Increase Diversity (PRIDE) summer institute program for Mentoring Researchers in Latino Health Disparities this past August.

Dr. Amy Murrell has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure effective with the fall 2011 semester. Dr. Murrell's primary area of expertise is functional contextual psychology. More specifically, her research examines Relational Frame Theory and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy as related to development and maintanence of child and parent psychopathology and treatment.

Daniel Taylor, Ph.D. and Kimberly Kelly, Ph.D. of the Clinical Health Psychology program at the University of North Texas have been awarded $442,838 to study the effects of insomnia on response to the influenza vaccine by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health. The primary aim of the proposed study is to determine if insomnia is a risk factor for lower influenza vaccine antibody response.

Dr. Joseph Doster passed away December 12th, 2010. Joe began his three and a half decade career at the University of North Texas in 1976. He provided the leadership that resulted in the initial, national accreditations for the Clinical and Health psychology programs, and was Director of the Health Psychology program for 25 years.
