Dr. Rogers Awarded Grant from the National Science Foundation

Dr. Richard Rogers of the Clinical Psychology program has been awarded a two-year grant for $334,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to study juvenile Miranda warnings. Thousands of young offenders each year are placed in custody and provided with specially-written juvenile Miranda warnings. Virtually nothing is known whether such advisements inform or misinform juvenile offenders. By using a mock-crime scenario, this NSF investigation will examine the comprehension of juvenile warnings, and the effects of maturity and knowledge on decisions to waive 5th Amendment rights.
