We encourage you to use the information on this page to assist you in deciding if the Clinical Program at UNT is right for you and to prepare a strong application. You may also wish to review the fact sheet from the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP).
How do I know if I am qualified?
First, please be certain you meet the minimum requirements to apply. If you meet these requirements, then we encourage you to fully explore our program website to determine whether the Clinical Psychology program is a good fit for you. In addition, you can review data on recent students and get a sense of what is typical of students in our program. However, our program does not solely evaluate your application by the numbers (e.g., GRE and GPA). We consider how well your training needs and goals fit with our faculty strengths and training program.
How do I learn more about the Clinical Program?
Detailed information about the Clinical Psychology doctoral program may be located in our program manual. You should also be sure to review current faculty information on this website to get a sense of whether your interests align with those of our faculty. More candidly, you may enjoy viewing what our students have to say about their experiences.
What would it be like to live in Denton and attend UNT?
For a virtual sampling of Denton's offerings, you may want to consider the music scene and local culture or learn what wikipedia has to say about Denton. As a doctoral student, you would likely come to identify strongly with the us and it is natural to get excited. If you just need to express it somehow, here's a quick tutorial in the universal sign used at UNT to show such feelings: the eagle claw: (1) Hold up your fist; (2) Make a V for Victory using your pointer and middle fingers; (3) Extend your thumb and curl your fingers slightly towards your palm.
Can I afford doctoral training?
The department is able to provide some support to most students, usually in the form of teaching assistantships (TA), teaching fellowships (TF), or research assistantships (RA). In addition, scholarships and financial aid for doctoral students at UNT is available. However, finances always involve very personal considerations that are difficult to fully consider via a website. If you are offered admission, we will be happy to more fully discuss your specific questions and help you "do the math" to fully understand how much the financial package we offer can off-set tuition and fees. In broad terms, we can describe the financial package associated with doctoral training in our program as nationally competitive.
