Research Interests: Current emphasis is on methodologies for surveillance of suicidal events generally, and on understanding the presentations of suicidal patients in emergency departments in particular. Recent projects focus on the reliability and validity of suicide and suicide attempt statistics; environmental influences impacting US suicidal behavior both at the population and individual patient level; impact of post-suicide attempt medical care on probability of reattempt; point of final healthcare system contact prior to suicide; and intergenerational transmission of suicidal and other violent behaviors.
